ZUBERI MATSITSI

ZUBERI MATSITSI
Taste notes : Blueberry, Pomelo
Burundian coffees are still catching up in popularity to the coffees coming from other African countries, like Ethiopia or Kenya, but should definitely not be overlooked. This is our first year featuring Zuberi Matsitsi’s coffee. His natural red bourbon do not disappoint.

Tasting notes: Blueberry, Pomelo

Burundian coffees are still catching up in popularity to the coffees coming from other African countries, like Ethiopia or Kenya, but should definitely not be overlooked. This is our second time featuring Zuberi Matsitsi’s coffee. His natural red bourbon do not disappoint. It is a bright cup of coffee, with notes of blueberry and pomelo, a taste similar to a grapefruit, but sweeter. This coffee reminds us of taking an afternoon stroll near our roastery, along the Lachine Canal on a sunny summer’s day. What story do the beans and your tastebuds co-author?

It was only recently, in 2019, when Matsitsi first marketed outside of Burundi. Located in the Muyinga region, Matsitsi’s washing station is surrounded by the Nyagishiru Hills. He has contributed seedlings to local farmers, to replace old-aged coffee trees, and collects cherries from 12 neighbouring hills, as well as tending to 7000 of his own trees.

Not only has he supported local farmers and labourers (by paying almost 60% more than the average casual labour rate), but Matsitsi has also provided funds for the construction of a school and health centre in Muyinga.
