Tasting notes: Caramel, Rhubarb Pie

We’ve had the privilege of working with, and growing alongside, Colombia’s Las Rosas Women’s Group since we started. This year is extra special, as we’re roasting greens from one of their first microlots. As suggested by the name, microlots are small selections of the best quality from producers, where the beans are more precisely harvested and sorted and offer farmers a chance to share a product specific to their land and its unique features, like soils and altitude.

From a cup of these washed Castillos, we taste notes of caramel and rhubarb pie. This coffee reminds us of the warmth felt by slowing down to connect with people: friends (new and old), colleagues, or strangers.

Las Rosas started in 2010, when an initial group of 50 women, tired of the way they were being treated, came together to make change. Their project began with parabolic drying tables and planting 2500 coffee trees; their mission is centred on family prosperity and generational renewal. Today, Las Rosas is 250 women strong, with 50 women in leadership positions. Once again, we are delighted to see their growth and to bring you one of their first microlots. We hope you enjoy this year’s collaboration with Las Rosas Women’s Group!
