Marleny Imbachi is a lifelong coffee producer, a founding member of the Monkaaba Group, and a pillar of the San Agustín specialty coffee community. If this name sounds familiar to you, that’s because we’ve been buying coffees from this group for several years and we’re proud to have the opportunity to work with Marleny this year.
She has lived the evolution of specialty coffee with her husband Augusto Ortega and in 2015 they successfully sold their first microlot under their name. From there, they have improved continuously and are now cultivating high quality-potential varieties, such as this delicate gesha.
Although this varietal was originally found in the forest of Ethiopia, it was brought back into the spotlight in Panama because of its resistance to coffee leaf rust, and the culture gently spread to other south americans countries such as Colombia. The quality is always in the cup and you will taste funky but delicate notes of gummies and blood orange in this little gem.
